Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

MS is a chronic condition affecting the central nervous system, disrupting signals between the brain and body. Symptoms include fatigue, weakness, spasticity, balance problems, and difficulty walking.

HOW WE CAN HELP

Multiple sclerosis can affect movement in different ways and symptoms may change over time. Physiotherapy can help with:

  • Walking and mobility

  • Balance and falls prevention

  • Muscle weakness

  • Stiffness and spasticity

  • Fatigue management

  • Strength and conditioning

  • Coordination

  • Transfers

  • Posture and positioning

  • Maintaining physical activity

  • Equipment and mobility recommendations

  • Maintaining independence for as long as possible

PHYSIOTHERAPY IN YOUR OWN ENVIRONMENT

With MS, the aim is often to make movement as effective and sustainable as possible while working around fluctuating symptoms and fatigue.

Home-based physiotherapy allows us to see exactly where difficulties arise and develop practical solutions around your daily routine. Treatment might focus on walking safely around the home, managing stairs, conserving energy, maintaining strength or improving confidence outside.

Your programme can be reviewed and adapted as your needs change.

YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, mobility, fatigue, falls, activity levels and the areas of everyday life you are finding most difficult.

The physical assessment may include strength, balance, walking, coordination, muscle tone and overall function. We will then agree realistic goals and develop a programme that works with your symptoms rather than against them.

NOT SURE WHERE TO START?

If you’d like to find out whether neurological physiotherapy could help you or someone you care for, we’re happy to talk things through.
